Recently we posted a recipe for the Latin rice based drink called Horchata. This easy to make recipe seems to be catching on in wider circles – the drink seems to have become a popular trend. The unique and sweet flavor of Horchata seems to be very adaptable, easily translated into desserts (cupcakes, flan) and even cocktails.
According to the Horchata wikipedia page a cocktail called the Rice Rocket is made in some Hispanic bars in Southern California:
- 2 parts Horchata
- 1 part Malibu (or coconut flavor rum)
- Dash of Goldschlager (Italian cinnamon schnapps)
Combine first two ingredients over ice, finish with a dash of Goldschlager.
Carino’s “Beso” Horchata Cocktail
- 1 1/2 oz. Jimador Blanco Tequila
- 1/2 oz. Kahlua
- 2 oz. Horchata
Shake all three ingredients well, and pour into a chilled martini glass or a rocks glass with ice.
