James Turrell Retrospective – MFAH

If you haven’t visited the James Turrell retrospective currently showing at the MFAH, it’s well worth adding it to your calendar. The artist is best known for his atmospheric light installations the most famous of which is currently in progress in a desert crater outside Flagstaff, AZ.

Closer to home, you may have seen Turrell’s recent outdoor “Skyspace” installation (2012), which was commissioned by Rice University for their permanent collection. Yet to celebrate the artist’s entire body of work, the MFAH has compiled a wide spectrum of drawings, prints, and installations dating back to the late 60’s.

The show is open to the public until Sept. 22nd, so there’s still plenty of time. Drop-ins are welcome, but we recommend making a reservation, as the museum limits the number of viewers each hour. It’s also worth noting that Thursday admissions are free!
