Winter Garden at Devin Borden Gallery

Margaret Smithers-Crump “Poised” 2013. Acrylic. Dimensions variable.

December is easily the busiest month of the year as everyone prepares for the holidays, but it is also one of the most rewarding. Forget shopping – there is so much going on here in Houston that it’s hard to keep track of what to do during whatever down time you can find! For starters, we just got wind of an interestingly seasonal art exhibit at Devin Borden Gallery that opened over the weekend.

Entitled “Winter Garden”, the exhibition celebrates the distinct palettes, textures, and moods of the year’s final season. As such, the show itself consists of an number of sculptures, paintings and works on paper by a variety of locally, nationally, and internationally renowned artists including Nicole Phungrasamee Fein, Jay Giroux, Geoff Hippenstiel,
 Ted Kincaid,
 Paul Kittelson,
 Brice Marden,
 Agnes Martin,
 Margaret Smithers-Crump, and Charles Wiese.

Charles Wiese [untitled] 2008. Archival inkjet edition of 3. “60” x 24”

Nicole Phungrasamee Fein “No. 1082912”. Watercolor on paper. 14’ x 14’

Hilary Wilder “Glacier” 2013. Acrylic on Yupe. 14” x 10”

The show will be up through January 10th, so there’s plenty of time to drop by. Devin Borden Gallery is located at 3917 Main St. in the historic Isabella Court complex, which also houses Inman Gallery, David Shelton Gallery, and Kinzelman Art Consultants. Complimentary private or street parking is available on Isabella St.
