Hamilton Recommends: Honeymoon Café

One of to most common criticisms we hear about Houston is that it lacks a strong café culture where you can relax, sip a cappuccino, enjoy a salad and people-watch. On the whole, there might be something to it, but really, you just have to know where to look.

Surprisingly enough, we have found ourselves going downtown to what has become one of our favorite cafés in the city. Having only opened in the spring of last year, Honeymoon Café has already become a central spot downtown for quality coffee, homemade pastries and full-on meal service for both lunch and dinner. And even if you’re not nearby, it’s well worth the trip.

Honeymoon Café is literally a cornerstone of the 300 block of Main St, which has led a rejuvenation of downtown’s culinary and cultural landscape in recent years. In fact, Honeymoon was founded with the mission to build more of a community downtown, where people have a place to eat, drink, meet, work, linger, or – you know – people-watch.

In short, it’s working. With a coffee menu developed by the roasters and baristas behind Boomtown Coffee in The Heights, and a food menu featuring homemade pastries, sandwiches, salads, soups, charcuterie and cheese plates, custom cocktails and desserts, Honeymoon is pointing downtown in a great direction.

The next time you’re nearby, be sure to stop in. Take a look at their website for their menus, hours and location—and let us know what you think.
