We’ve partnered with Woodford Reserve to create limited edition julep cups to celebrate the 142nd annual Kentucky Derby.
It’s no real secret that we are big fans of a good mint julep. As far as cocktails go, it’s timeless and elegant, yet simple and straightforward—qualities we very much value in our own work.
With the 142nd annual Kentucky Derby only days away, we have even more cause to enjoy a couple juleps. In fact, we’re proud to unveil the product of a special collaboration we had alongside our friends at Woodford Reserve.
For the past 10 years, Woodford Reserve has served as the official bourbon sponsor of the Kentucky Derby. And as part of their support, the distillery has created a yearly $1,000 Mint Julep, which sells off a limited edition of handcrafted julep cups designed by a new partner each year, all to benefit various charitable organizations. To date, this program has raised over $425,000 for different causes and we’re proud to have been invited to design this year’s edition.
Our design is rooted in the idea of a “trifecta.” Viewing it as more than just a derby-day bet, the trifecta is a common bond of quality, passion, and heritage that we share not only with Woodford Reserve, but also with the Kentucky Derby as a whole.
In addition to designing pewter and gold julep cups to reflect these shared sensibilities, we also incorporated our classic green and white gingham fabric to line each walnut display box.
There are also some subtle touches we’re particularly proud of, including a “stitch” themed update to the classic julep cup beading patterns around the foot and the lip, as well as a classic glen plaid texture and horseshoe icon for good luck.
The 90 pewter Crafter’s Cups will go on sale for $1,000, with only 15 gold-plated Master’s Cups selling for $2,500. Click here to reserve yours—and if you’re not able to pick one up, you can still enjoy a taste of the 2016 Kentucky Derby no matter where you are, courtesy of Woodford Reserve:
