Shirts are available for online purchase in both standard and Made-to-Measure sizes. Our most custom option, Hamilton Bespoke, is available exclusively at our Houston Workshop or a Hamilton Stockist where a specialist will guide you through the process.
For online purchases, please see our Fit Guide for details. We also offer Try-on Shirts for a refundable deposit of $100. Still need help? Call us at 713.264.8800 or email email@example.com and we’ll be happy to walk you through the measurement process.
Let us make you a shirt. We guarantee a perfect fit. If you’re not 100% happy, we’ll alter or replace your first shirt at no charge. Once we perfect your fit, we’ll save your updated details for easy re-ordering.
There are a couple reasons why shirt sizes may have slight variations between them. The most common is due to the fact that shirts change size over time with wear and launderings. Typically the fabric becomes softer and may stretch to a larger size.
If your new shirts seem to fit differently than older shirts, the most likely explanation is that they simply need to be “broken in.” We encourage you to wash and wear the shirts several times.
If you feel that immediate adjustment is required, we ask that in addition to returning the new shirts you also loan us your best fitting older shirt. This will allow us to measure the older shirt and determine your preferred measurements.
Your corresponding online size depends on the label in your existing shirt. Please click here for details.
Succinctly, the difference is the degree of customization.
Made-to-Measure (MTM) shirts offer an edited selection of our most popular fabrics and styles. For MTM shirts, your Fit is based on collar size, chest size, sleeve length and desired fit (regular or trim). You can customize the Fit and Style on any shirt featured in our Collections section.
By contrast, our Bespoke Shirts feature limitless customization and are available exclusively at our Houston Storefront or a Hamilton Stockist. We begin the process by making a single shirt for your approval. After making any necessary adjustments, we then produce the remainder of your order.
For first time Bespoke purchases, there is a minimum order of five shirts. There is no order minimum on repeat purchases.
If you’ve already worked with us to create your custom fit, you can simply call us to place your order and we’ll make your shirts just the way you like them according to your file.
Yes. This service is available in Hamilton Bespoke. If you prefer the fit or style of a shirt already in your possession we can duplicate all or certain elements.
We suggest commercial laundering without starch. If a specific fabric requires dry cleaning, this will be indicated on the shirt care tag. Federal law does not allow us to suggest “commercial laundering” on shirt care tags.
For this reason the care tag reads, “Machine wash cold, line dry, do not bleach”. This is also an acceptable form of shirt care, however we have observed that shirts shrink more when washed at home as compared to when commercially laundered.
Your collar has been specially constructed to avoid excessive shrinkage after many launderings. For this reason, we prefer not to glue, or fuse the interlining to the collar fabric.
If hand ironing, press from the tips of the collar up and towards the center. Do not press towards the tips of the collar or the fabric may crease against the seam.
If you are consistently having issues with fabric creasing on your collars, you may want to consider fused lining. Although not recommended due to excessive shrinkage, we will use fused lining upon request.
Collars and cuffs consist of an interlining sewn between two pieces of fabric. It’s this interlining that provides the necessary structure and weight. Most shirtmakers choose to fuse (glue) the interlining to the fabric because it is an easy way to ensure the shirt looks crisp when new.
The downside to fusing is that the shirt continues to shrink with each laundering as the glue contracts. It requires greater care and skill to construct an excellent non-fused collar. Non-fused shirts do not shrink after initial launderings.
Although not recommended due to the excessive shrinkage, we will use fused lining upon request.
The answer depends on many factors, so it’s best to contact a shirt specialist regarding your specific situation. Here are some general guidelines:
– The body of a shirt can’t be altered to a larger size. If the collar and/or cuffs are too small, those can sometimes be replaced.
– The body of a shirt can be reduced up to 2” in the chest, waist and bicep areas. If additional alterations are required to achieve your desired fit, the shirt should be replaced. If the original shirt was purchased within a year of the requested alteration, we will extend a 25% discount on the replacement.
– We can sometimes replace parts of a shirt (collars, cuffs, etc.). We would have to check that fabric is available and matches the color shade of the shirt. Shirts often change color with time and laundering.
– Shirts more than ten years old cannot be easily altered without the shirt falling apart.
Alterations to Hamilton products can be made within certain specifications per each garment.
– Most garments can only be taken in or let out +/- 1”
– Tailor must approve alterations during fitting
– See our Alterations Price List for a full list of pricing.
The Delivery window for alterations will vary. A customer may request a specific completion date for their garment, however, Hamilton cannot guarantee this during peak season & depending on our open workload.
Non-Hamilton products will be accepted for alterations on a case-by-case basis.
A customer must provide a credit card for us to keep on file and an associate will provide a cost estimate at the time of fitting. Please note that this is only an estimate and the final cost cannot be determined until the work is complete.
Factors determining cost and Hamilton’s ability to perform requested alterations may include:
– Tailor’s availability & open workload
– Number of garments customer would like to alter
– Type of alteration (very easy or very difficult/complicated)
– Completion date requested
Please note that alterations are “best efforts” only. It’s possible that garments may be damaged during the alteration process and Hamilton will not provide any reimbursement for the cost of the garment being altered.
Non-local Hamilton customers who prefer their garment be tailored locally & are unable to come back to Hamilton for fitting.
Hamilton will cover the cost of alterations up to $100 per garment
– Suit Jacket + Pant constitutes one garment
– Customer will need to provide copy of receipt to qualify for reimbursement
