HOW DO I DETERMINE MY SIZE?
For online purchases, shirts are available in both Standard and Made-to-Order sizes. More info can be found in our Fit Guide. Try-On Shirts are also available to help determine the right size.
For questions about our most custom option, Bespoke, please see the Bespoke section of our FAQ page or contact a Shirtmaker at 713.264.8800 or info@hamiltonshirts.com.
WHAT IS THE PERFECT FIT GUARANTEE?
We’ll make a shirt and guarantee a perfect fit. If not fully satisfied, we’ll alter or replace the first shirt at no charge. Once we find the perfect fit, we’ll save your updated details for easy re-ordering.
I REQUESTED THE SAME FIT AS MY PREVIOUS ORDER, BUT THE NEW SHIRTS FIT DIFFERENTLY. WHY IS THAT?
If your new shirts fit slightly differently than your old ones, the most likely explanation is they need to be “broken in.” We encourage washing and wearing the shirts several times. Shirts change size over time with wear and launderings. Typically the fabric becomes softer and may stretch to a larger size.
If immediate adjustment is required, we ask that you loan us your best-fitting older shirt in addition to returning the new shirts. This will allow us to measure the older shirt and determine your preferred measurements. Your best-fitting shirt is not necessarily the same size as when you first received it.
I PURCHASED AN ALPHA-SIZED (S, M, L, ETC.) HAMILTON SHIRT AT A RETAIL STORE AND WANT TO ORDER THE SAME SIZE ONLINE. HOW DO I DETERMINE MY SIZE?
Your corresponding online size depends on the label in your existing shirt. Please reference our conversion chart.
WHAT IS THE PRICE OF BESPOKE SHIRTS?
Bespoke shirts are priced according to the selected fabric. Please contact us or a local stockist for pricing details.
IS THERE A MINIMUM ORDER FOR BESPOKE SHIRTS?
For first time Bespoke purchases, there is a minimum order of five shirts. A trial shirt will be constructed for your approval. After making any necessary adjustments, we then produce the remainder of your order.
There is no minimum on re-orders.
CAN YOU COPY DUPLICATE THE FIT OR STYLE OF A SAMPLE SHIRT?
Yes. This service is available in Hamilton Bespoke. If you prefer the fit or style of a shirt already in your possession, we can duplicate all or certain elements.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MADE-TO-ORDER AND BESPOKE SIZING?
Succinctly, the difference is the degree of customization. Bespoke is more custom than Made-to-Order.
Made-to-Order custom sizing is based on your COLLAR size, CHEST size, SLEEVE length and FIT (Regular or Trim).
Bespoke sizing is based on a personal paper pattern created just for you.
ARE SHIRTS AVAILABLE ONLINE ALSO AVAILABLE IN HAMILTON BESPOKE?
Yes. Every shirt in our online shop is also available in Hamilton Bespoke. To order, please contact a Shirtmaker.
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY SHIRTS?
We suggest commercial laundering without starch. If a specific fabric requires dry cleaning, this will be indicated on the shirt care tag. Federal law does not allow us to suggest “commercial laundering” on shirt care tags.
For this reason, the care tag reads, “Machine wash cold, line dry, do not bleach.” This is also an acceptable form of shirt care; however, we have observed that shirts shrink more when washed at home as opposed to commercially laundering.
Your collar has been specially constructed to avoid excessive shrinkage after many launderings. For this reason, we prefer not to glue or fuse the interlining to the collar fabric.
If hand ironing, press from the tips of the collar up and towards the center. Do not press towards the tips of the collar, or the fabric may crease against the seam.
If you are consistently having issues with fabric creasing on your collars, you may want to consider fused lining. Although not recommended due to excessive shrinkage, we will use fused lining upon request.
WHAT IS FUSING, AND WHY DOES HAMILTON NOT RECOMMEND FUSED COLLARS AND CUFFS?
Collars and cuffs consist of an interlining sewn between two pieces of fabric. It’s this interlining that provides the necessary structure and weight. Most shirtmakers choose to fuse (glue) the interlining to the fabric because it is an easy way to ensure the shirt looks crisp when new.
The downside to fusing is that the shirt continues to shrink with each laundering as the glue contracts. It requires greater care and skill to construct an excellent non-fused collar. Non-fused shirts do not shrink after initial launderings.
Although not recommended due to the excessive shrinkage, we will use fused lining upon request.
CAN MY EXISTING SHIRTS BE ALTERED OR ADJUSTED?
The answer depends on many factors, so it’s best to contact one of our Shirtmakers regarding your specific situation. Here are some general guidelines:
- + We guarantee that shirts will be delivered within our stated sizing tolerances. If we fail to do so, we will make the necessary alterations at no charge. Otherwise, alteration charges will apply.
- + The body of a shirt can’t be altered to a larger size. If the collar and/or cuffs are too small, those can sometimes be replaced.
- + The body of a shirt can be reduced up to 2” in the chest, waist, and bicep areas. If additional alterations are required to achieve your desired fit, the shirt should be replaced. If the original shirt was purchased within a year of the requested alteration, we will extend a 25% discount on the replacement.
- + We can sometimes replace parts of a shirt (collars, cuffs, etc.). We must ensure that fabric is available and matches the color shade of the shirt. Shirts often change color with time and laundering.
- + Shirts more than ten years old cannot be easily altered without the shirt falling apart.
DO YOU OFFER CLOTHING ALTERATIONS?
HAMILTON PRODUCTS
- + Alterations to Hamilton products can be made within certain parameters for each garment.
+ Most garments can only be taken in or let out +/- 1”.
+ Tailor must approve alterations during fitting. The Delivery window for alterations will vary. We cannot guarantee the completion of alterations by a customer-requested date. See our Alterations Price List for a full list of pricing.
NON-HAMILTON PRODUCTS
Non-Hamilton products will be accepted for alterations on a case-by-case basis. A customer must provide a credit card for us to keep on file, and an associate will provide a cost estimate at the time of fitting. Please note this is only an estimate, and the final cost cannot be determined until the work is complete. Factors determining cost and Hamilton’s ability to perform requested alterations may include:
- + Tailor’s availability and open workload.
- + Number of garments customer would like to alter.
- + Type of alteration (very easy or very difficult/complicated).
- + Completion date requested.
Please note that alterations are “best efforts” only. Garments may be damaged during the alteration process, and Hamilton will not provide any reimbursement for the cost of the garment being altered.
NON-LOCAL HAMILTON CUSTOMERS WHO PREFER THEIR GARMENTS BE TAILORED LOCALLY AND ARE UNABLE TO COME BACK TO HAMILTON FOR FITTING.
Hamilton will cover the cost of alterations up to $100 per garment.
- + A Suit Jacket and Pant constitute one garment.
- + Customer will need to provide copy of receipt to qualify for reimbursement.
